Introducing our Quick-Start Info Booklets for American Mahjong.  This infographic and basic guide, along with the NMJL card, offers a very simplified set of instructions to get you started playing American Mah Jongg, or help remind you of the basic tips and tricks. From dealing to the Charleston, rules and tips when calling tiles or using Jokers, this great guide will get you started. 

Please note that American Mah Jongg is a complex game with many nuances and official rules- most who learn will do so with multiple sessions with a formal mahjong instructor. This guide is NOT a full and complete training guide and will not include all the nuances or details. But, it is intended to give you the quick basics so that you can get started! And, it's a great guide with reminders, steps and helpful hints to keep track of some of the most common mistakes and tips.

Laminated and thick card material means that these guides will last- Great for travel or poolside! Offered in 2 formats:

Quad-fold card sized the same as the oversized NMJL card (6" x 4.75")

2 separate cards sized a bit larger (7.5" x 5")

Sold as singles or packs of 5, these are intended to help you get started (and if you're like many of our customers and friends... reference for all time because there is SO much in this game!

The tile designs used to explain the suits are from our My Fair Mahjong Anywhere Series- they are "traditional symbol-adjacent;" with whimsical Jokers, Winds and Flowers. They are intended to demonstrate and explain the major types of tiles, but do not represent all mahjong tile designs.

Our Quick-Start guide does not replace the need to have your NMJL card for American Mah Jongg play, and it certainly does not cover it all! It contains just the basics. There are so many amazing books online that break down the full rules of the American Mah Jongg style of play (with the source, of course, being the National Mah Jongg League - where we would point you for all "official" rules).
